how is silent hill a RE ripoff?

i dun see any secret factory producing zombies by toxic chemicals in SH

SH will always possess something RE doesnt, it\'s called depth of story

What point would sales numbers prove when this poll asks you which series you prefer? oO  And of course RE games will sell more, as kopking noted, because Capcom markets them so much more than Konami ever does with Silent Hill titles.

Silent Hill is a Resident Evil ripoff?  Haha...

Hawke did an excellent job summarizing the difference in the two.

My point was simple. This poll hardly gives an idea of what series is more popular. Not enough people.

And we all know sales is king. -shrugs-

There are like....what?7 Resident Evils(excluding the light gun series and the directors cut)?
But there are only 3 Silent Hills. all great only SH 2 loses a bit because of its more confusing storyline and with a little less surprises.

But the number that have been made is irrelevant.  The question is which series is better.  Resident Evil has a higher number of good (better) games in it\'s series, thus, I prefer it more.

And the storyline was the only good thing about SH2.

The more sequels there are in a series the more chances there are to get a higher number of goog sequels unlike a series with 2 or 3 sequels.
The real challenge for a developer is to make only a few and make them all good.

And the more sequals you make, the more chance there is of making bad games.  Actually, that\'s probably a much more accurate way of stating it, given that the more sequals to a series you make, the more chance there is that people will get tired of it.  Let\'s see how many times they can deliver to you the same game with a different story and new locations in the Silent Hill series before you start calling it too another Tomb Raider.

So how about I compare them this way.

Resident Evil 1 - 3 vs Silent Hill 1 - 3

Resident Evil 1 > Resident Evil 2 > Resident Evil 3 > Silent Hill 1 > Silent Hill 3 >>> Silent Hill 2

And lookee there, I prefer Resident Evil.  :)

Well you can see the results by yourself that proove that the Resident Evil series is dying.

BTW:The Tomb Raider series which wasnt as good after Tomb Raider 1, has 6 episodes and there are still 2 more planned an it still sells.Long continuation of the series doesnt proove that a series is great.
Also see Finbal Fantasy.Sells like hotcakes, there is nothing innovative in the series and there are still sequels in the making.
You also said by yourself there are more chances of making bad games if you make more sequels.Which Resident Evil was so great after Resi2?Resi3?Code Veronica?RE:Remake?Or Re:0?And it still sells.

And lookee up there most people prefer SH(Including me) :)

You didn\'t understand a thing I said.

I pretty much just spelled that out for you.  The RE series has been rehashed to death.  Just like the Silent Hill series will be if they continue to give you the same game every incarnation with a new story and new environment.

As I just said, the RE series has gone way downhill.  That being already established, the RE series as a whole (including the first three) is overall better than the SH series. IMO.  I don\'t even know why you brought this point up.

Quote

In terms of being innovative to the series, it adds a completely new magic/levelling up/battle system with each game.  In fact, Final Fantasy and Resident Evil have both added more gameplay elements with each incarnation to the series (despite being much longer) than the Silent Hill series has.

Quote
You also said by yourself there are more chances of making bad games if you make more sequels.Which Resident Evil was so great after Resi2?Resi3?Code Veronica?RE:Remake?Or Re:0?And it still sells.

Why do you keep bringing up sales?  Code Veronica and 0 were both poor games (IMO), but sold well.  Who cares?  The same goes for Silent Hill 2.  Poor game that sold well.  What\'s the whole point of bringing up how much it sells?

And again, look back at my previous point, the more sequals a series produces the more chance it has of them going bad.  Tomb Raider and Resident Evil are perfect examples of that.

Let\'s see if you still like it after 3 more rehashes, shall we? :)  And I\'m merely saying that IMO, the Resident Evil series is superior to the Silent Hill series.  I don\'t care if everyone else prefers the Silent Hill series..  I\'m not playing videogames to be popular..

Nemesis was great...

STAAAARSSS!!!
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
