100$ is not two tiered pricing
it\'s a marketing ploy

400$ and 200$ is two tiered.

two tiered approach.  whatever.  doesn\'t matter.

Fact is that Microsoft made it so you can go home with just a games machine at its most basic, or you can go all out and enjoy the benefits of the extras (mass storage, Xbox Live, Media Center (if you buy the wi-fi)).  I think it\'s a safe bet there will be a HD-DVD bundle as well come this holiday.  In any case, the consumer has options, and the 360 can appeal to many more people given the different introductory prices.

Man this is a steep price for a console. And for those of you wanting it for blueray technology how do you know it\'s not gonna suck like many of the early PS2s did as DVD players? I got a PS2 the first month it was out because I wanted a DVD player as much as a console and ended up buying another DVD player within 7 months because the console had so many problems reading discs.

Those of you who justify buying it because it\'s "blueray" better hope that Sony doesn\'t ship a buggy product like the PS2.

That and the price means I won\'t be buying one anytime soon, I can afford it but $500-$700 for a console is just ridiculous.

Well my PS3 purchase is secured now, I have $700 saved up. BUT I\'ll make up my mind when I know what games will be out day 1. :)

It depends on what version I get, the 20GB version is about $680, the 60GB costs $820. I want a HDMI port but I\'m not sure if thats worth the extra dollars it would cost, I dont have a HDTV yet anyway. The 25% tax is already included in the price.

Will the games in the US cost 60? Has that been confirmed? What do the PS2 games cost over there? We\'ll probably have to pay around $80 for the games over here. :/ PS2 games already cost $60-$70 here.

I\'m assuming the games will cost the same as 360 games- $60, with a few coming in at $50.

All of these consoles unlike PS3 though, had other problems as well.

Their manifacturers didnt market them well, they didnt have previous market share and fame to back them up, their consoles didnt have anything that excused the pricing relative to their competitors, and they didnt try enough to build developer support.

Sony has the PS\'s success to boost PS3 sales, and it has a huge support as far as what I have seen so far. Not to mention key franchises. MGS, GT, DMC, FF, God of War, Heavenly Sword, Tekken and the likes.

Also it has other functions and extras the competidors dont have and they are willing to exploit and support their functionality than just have them there for "prestige".

For Europe a 17% tax is included in the price.

Just like Nintendo had key franchises and SNES success to boost its N64 sales?

Or is Sony actually making bone-headed marketing decisions and alienating its key demographic, the casual gamer. S\'pose we\'ll see. ;]
