Red Faction 4 details \'later this month\'

Quote

The next Red Faction game - which looks to be subtitled \'Armageddon\' - will be revealed "later this month", THQ\'s said in its quarterly earnings call.

Speaking to CVG earlier this year, VP of Core Games, Danny Bilson confirmed that the next Faction will be released this year and said that "it\'s different from the last one but similar."

He said: "It\'s sort of a combo of the old one and the new one, so it\'s... I don\'t want my marketing guy to be pissed at me for giving away too much, but it goes back underground and it\'s really cool."

Bilson also claimed that the next instalment is set to have "insane upgrades". We\'ll be the judge of that, Mr. B.

You can also expect to see a Red Faction TV movie on satellite channel, SyFy this year.

Rumor: Assassin\'s Creed 3 Details To Be Revealed Soon?

Quote
Now, before I go any further, I cannot exclaim anymore that this is purely rumour and speculation. In fact, it may be nothing at all concerning Assassin\'s Creed 3 whatsoever. However, read the information below and see what you make of it.

Ubisoft just sent me an email with a very strange subject header. I\'ll copy it below.

Subject: Message from Abstergo

An offering to you who welcome a new dawn of man.

Rumour: Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown on Console by Christmas?

Quote
There are rumblings over at VirtuaFighter.com with rumours of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown recieving a console release for Christmas 2010 or March 2011. Obviously SEGA fans are skeptical with the recent XBLA rumours being debunked, but unlike those, these come from a long time member of the VFDC Forums, and longer time Virtua Fighter fan.

Details are scarce, with one post claiming

    It’s happening………………. !

    But that’s all I’ll say.

Since then others have reported that the game is scheduled for a Christmas 2010 or March 2011 release, or backed up the initial post.

Fingers crossed, fans have been waiting a long time for the next Virtua Fighter.

All but official, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in the works

Quote

Confirming the rumors posted the other day, PlanetXbox360 reported that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was shown at Capcom\'s Captivate event in Hawaii.

There\'s an embargo on the details, so you won\'t be seeing screen shots, movies and other things until early next week, but here\'s the notes they were able to get together.

• Confirmed characters so far are Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm and a few others will return.

• The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 development team said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes on the disc.

• This will be another 2D fighter — gameplay-wise — but will be something of a cross between the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 4.

• The rumored release date is late 2010 or early 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, no plans right now for other systems.

• The game will run in 1080p resolution.

• It will be a disc-based release.

• Apparently the game will have unlockables again.

• Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be playable at this year\'s E3 which is held on June 15 - 17th.

PS3 Hardware Finally Turning a Profit

Quote

So what if Sony lost $893,000,000 last year; the good news: as of the end of March, the PS3 hardware is finally selling for more than it costs to produce!  Despite a price cut, the availability and ever-increasing technology of the Slim, especially, have allowed Sony to make some money.

Not a lot, mind you... but Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda did state that "with continued cost cutting measures, the system could reach double digit profitability in the near future."  Imagine, Sony might soon be making a whole ten dollars on every system sold!

This is not an uncommon practice.  Game companies have traditionally sold their new consoles at a loss, then made up for that with software sales.  (Except for Nintendo\'s Wii, which had the brilliant idea of making money on hardware starting at Day One, and then neglecting the software side of things.  Zing!)

Unfortunately, a strong year for the PS3 was held back by sagging PSP and PS2 sales, which both took losses.  PS2 software, especially, saw a huge drop, from 83.5 million units down to a mere 35.7 million units (might explain PS2\'s NPD de-listing?).  Looks like that ten-year plan for the PS3 may not have been too far off after all, eh?

Jobe gets game ready for Sony

Quote

Dylan Jobe is to show his new game to Sony tomorrow, just in time for E3.

The president of Lightbox Interactive said via Twitter:

“Off to SONY tomorrow for our latest milestone review and playtest. Really happy with the progress this month.

“Looking forward to all the feedback we’re gonna get from the playtest. Interestingly, we really only care about the negative feedback, the stuff we still have to improve on, or fix, or oversights that require new development.”

It is rumoured that Jobes studio is working on Starhawk, though other than the name being trademarked there has been no other news surrounding this.

Looks like it is set to be a pretty amazing E3 this year.

Sly Cooper Collection coming to PS3, in HD and 3D

Quote

The Sly Cooper Collection will be revealed tomorrow as part of the Sony press conference. A blurry image on 1UP, taken at the as-yet-unopened PlayStation booth, not only announces the title but also touts 3D support as one of its key features. An independent source confirmed to Joystiq that Sly Cooper Collection is very much a real thing, and that other PS2 HD remixes are likely to be seen during the show.

Quote

It started with Kratos, and now it seems another beloved Sony icon is getting his own upgraded anthology. A slightly blurry photo (above) from our Sights of E3 collection shows "The Sly Collection" being advertised, and it\'s hard not to notice the "3D" label in the right-hand corner. Sly Cooper is a Sucker Punch creation, and right now they\'re hard at work on Infamous 2 -- but fans wishing for more thieving raccoon action can at least check out the compiled games, transferred into HD.

This won\'t be the series\' first trip with 3D, however. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves included red/blue 3D glasses in the manual, but Sony\'s recent 3D push means this new version will include the more advanced 3D that requires the PlayStation 3\'s latest update

Metal Gear Solid 5 might be Kojima\'s \'next project\'

http://Metal Gear Solid 5 might be Kojima\'s \'next project\'

Quote

In April, Kojima Productions head and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima teased through his Japanese-language Twitter feed that his "next project will challenge a certain type of taboo." Unfortunately, Kojima has been less than forthcoming with more details about this mysterious work.

It\'s hard to say where things could go after MGS4.
This week, though, Kojima sat down with Hirokazu Hamamura, CEO of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, and offered a host of cryptic comments concerning one, or more, of the designer\'s upcoming projects. As relayed by Andria Sang, Kojima began by talking up his "next project," saying that details have been largely firmed up, though "recently, it has wavered a bit."

Kojima told Hamamura that after returning from the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, he experienced a change of heart. "I\'m not sure myself, but I began to want to do something different from what I\'d wanted to do originally," he said.

Delving deeper into the specific nature of this project, Kojima said that the game will either be entirely new or Metal Gear Solid 5. "For the next game I make, it\'s either MGS5 or an original game. I only have these two choices," he said. His indecision notwithstanding, Kojima noted that the game\'s engine is already up and running, and that he has allocated his key personnel to the project.

It seems clear that the game will not be a new installment in the Zone of the Enders franchise, a speculated frontrunner following interest expressed by Kojima in October. "Regarding [Zone of the Enders] and so-forth, sorry--those will be pushed a bit into the future. I\'m 47 this year, and I don\'t know when something might happen."

As for when the game would release and on which platforms, Kojima said, "It can\'t take three years," calling out the accelerated pace of game development in the West. He went on to say that the game is being created for unspecified consoles.

Quantic Dream working on two new projects, says Cage

Quote

Quantic Dream boss David Cage has told Examiner that his studio is currently working on two new projects.

He didn’t, however, drop any hints to the identity of these titles.
“We currently work on two very different projects,” admitted Cage.
“Often, after a long and challenging project like Heavy Rain, it is difficult for the team to get excited again about a new idea. This is absolutely not the case at the moment at Quantic and all the team seems enthusiastic about the possibility of other projects. The team and the company continue to grow in experience, confidence and talent.”
He went on: “After Heavy Rain, we have some credibility in experimenting with new IPs and new concepts. We are not going to play it safe from now, we are going to use this credibility to continue to take risks, give ourselves exciting challenges and try to invent new ways of playing.
“I believe that this is what Quantic Dream’s fans expect us to do. It is also what keeps me passionate about what we are doing.”
It was believed that following the release of Heavy Rain earlier this year, Quantic Dream was working on the Sony-exclusive Horizon, centred on “a curious man raised very insularly meeting a free woman who is hesitant to exercise her freedom,” based in a sci-fi setting.
Cage debunked that last month, saying the studio was instead working on new tech.

New Oddworld titles on the way

Quote

The chaps at Just Add Water have confirmed that the company is busy working on a heap of new Oddworld titles spanning multiple consoles.

Based in Yorkshire, the studio didn’t divulge much of any details on the upcoming projects, though did let slip that they would star “all of your favourite Oddworld characters,” with more info expected “over the coming weeks and months.”

Studio head Stewart Gilray commented: “To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic.”

“It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this. We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.”

For now, you may as well keep an eye on Abe Mudokon’s Twitter for any fresh announcements, as well as plenty of ramblings from the lovable Rapture Farms worker himself.

New Street Fighter III game announced

Quote

Update: Capcom has confirmed to Eurogamer that Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online will be a "downloadable title".

Original story: Yoshinori Ono has announced Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online for Capcom.

He name-dropped the title during a panel at Comic-Con on Saturday, according to 1UP.

There are no other official details.

Therefore, you\'re free to speculate. Does the "Online" part of the title mean this will be a PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade release? Or does the "Online" part mean you\'ll only be able to fight against others on the internet?

We\'ll find out one way or another.
