There is a limit to what you can achieve with software, and that limit is usually set by the performance hit incured. For example, the realtime shadows demonstrated on the NV20 in games like Malice, Kakuto-X and Doom3, would be impossible to achieve at that level on the PS2 without a MASSIVE performance hit. That\'s not to say that the PS2 cannot handle great shadows (just look at Buldur\'s Gate), but it will never be able to acheive the level seen on the XBox.

Hey DR yassam can i see your PS2 development kit? what, you don\'t have one? you don\'t even develop for it you say? then how do you know those comments of yours are fact?...oh that\'s right they are NOT.

i\'ll wait until 2002 software to prove my point....GT3 smokes any of that crap you just listed..

That\'s a totally different comparison! The XBox games we\'ve seen have been running on hardware which is, at best, 50% of the power of the final console. So if we imagine Halo was using 40% of the power of current XBox hardware, then it is in fact using just 20% of the power of the final XBox!!! Hence the final version will use that extra power for more polygons, more effects, more on screen characters/models etc.

Well then you just proved my point once again, xbox is not living up to it\'s hype..going by what you just said and by what microsoft said about the RAVEN demo ;)

HALO according to you should look like the pre-rendered RAVEN demo which ran at 25% of the xbox\'s power....but it does not:D

*insert coin try again*

Read the following interview with Microsoft\'s Seamus Blackley (very interesting!);

Xbox marks his spot:
http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1014-201-5264348-0.html?tag=bt_pr

"As a game developer a few years ago at Looking Glass Studios and Dreamworks Interactive, the former nuclear physicist could sling the Microsoft rhetoric as well as anyone.  "I used to be a dyed-in-the-wool Microsoft hater," Blackley recalls. "I couldn\'t imagine ever coming to work for Microsoft.""

OMG!!! microsoft PR said that? man oh man, i know i can trust microsoft because well, you say we can right?

PR=FACTS...right DOC?....:laughing:

Hate MS and hate Bill Gates if you want, but everytime I read an article or interview with either S. Blackley or J. Allard, I have more and more respect for these guys and with what they\'re trying to achieve. Hence, I\'m confident about the XBox and really look forward to TGS and E3. :)

yeah they are trying to protect their filthy wintel monopoly from sony...GO MICROSOFT!!!

i mean, they give us port after port, disappointment after disappointment...my god, all hail microsoft and their godly xbox...lol
. I\'ve said it before and I\'ll say it again, in terms of ingenuity, exclusivity, and console competition, X-Box brings nothing to the table except a fat wad of cash and some rehashed PC components wrapped with a DC controller and a plastic black box.----RYU

No problem BizioEE. :)

And NPlayer, congratulations on maintaining your Top Troll position. I especially enjoyed the way you answered my post with a series of unintelligent replies (as usual). Keep up the bad work. ;)

I smell the foul stench of another troll, already. Can you guess who it is?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

The PS2 can do everything that Xbox or Gamecube can do, it just does it at 1 Frame per second.

The Playstation 2 is a machine, its not the hand of God.  So when you wan\'t to do every single feature the xbox has and the Cube has, don\'t expect it to run at 60 frames or even 30 frames a second.    The power of xbox is pretty great on the final hardware and that would bring to the PS2 to its knees.

Nplayer, I think you would have a case if you stuck to why the PS2 is a lot like the PC. :)

So...why GT3 runs at 60 frames/sec with never-seen effects in a racing game?...I\'m wondering...

...why the tech-demos of the X-Box impress only the so called X-Box Fans...I mean...PC-Zealots...:D

I didn\'t say Xbox and GC were the hands of God.  I just said when you don\'t understand.

Let me type it out real slow for you... :)

To push the PS2 like the Xbox or gamecube (ie. Using all of their features) would pull the PS2 to its knees.

The PS2 is powerfull but you have to program like some wizard to get all the power out of it.  I mean even to push 66 million polygons and use most of the floating point, out of the system, you would have to operate in parallel.  Lets be honest, thats not happening... :)

Anyone who isn\'t a Playstation biggot and with half a brain could tell you that the PS2 using all features and effects that the Xbox and/or Cube can do would bring the PS2 to its knees and give you around 1 frame per second, maybe a little more, but not much more.  Maybe 5 frames per second, IF YOURE LUCKY and WELL OPTIMISED.

The PS2 power isn\'t bad, but its the lowest power out of all next generation consoles.   Lets call a spade a spade here folks.

Racing games from cameras have always been awesome.  But once you get inside the car its butt ugly.  Xbox and gamecube will produce much better results.  Give them the same time that GT3 has been delayed and see how disapointed you get when GT3 looks like a Dreamcast game compared to the real next generation consoles.

Real Next Generation Consoles?   ...what do you mean?
I\'m interested in Next Generation Games...and I\'m sure PS2 will show some of the most beautiful games ever thanks to the power of the EE and the talent of developers like Square,Polyphony,Namco,Konami,Capcom,Naughty Dog,Free Radical...etc...do you think that better texturing makes a game better than another? Do you think that Malice will beat Mario 64 in game-play?
The answer is NO!!  Nintendo knows how to do platforms and per-pixel-shading does mean nothing if you have no experience in that genre of games...
You make me laugh when you say that GT3 will look like a DC game compared to the real next generation consoles...why?....First you mistake hardware for software:)...GT3 is only the beginning and when gamers will see what Polyphony is doing with GT4...they will start to realize that GT4 is a True Next Generation Racing Game while most of the others only and simply trivial games with Great Textures and Lighting!
The first GT for PSX is FAR superior than any PC-racing game running on a P4 1.5 Ghz and GeForce 2!
...only a Great and innovative game-play makes a Game a next generation game...not a little more detailed texture!
X-Box will have its beautiful exclusive titles, nobody is arguing about it...but I think that the Microsoft Console will offer nothing more than PS2 apart from better texturing and shading!
...and however I haven\'t yet seen what X-Box can do in Real Games(polys,effects,physics,AI,collision-system,animations etc)

..so...let\'s wait and see.....if a P3 + NV2A is so more powerful than The EE + GS  :D
