yea, i heard they made the game for the xbox and then downgraded to the ps2 (which isnt much) and pushes the PS2. Last year they made the game for the ps2, not pushing the limits, then made the same game for xbox. sorry if that doesnt make sense.

Im still getting madden though, and debating with espn.

yea i suggest you do that...not that i don\'t believe you or anything and you may very well be right..it\'s just that i could\'ve sworn you only needed the harddrive for highlights of YOUR halftime highlights & for your weekly highlights for the whole week..

i noticed in espn 2k4 they would never show highlights from your game..i think it had to do with memory storage thus, the hdd option..but i will look around as well and if that is the case, i will just cop the harddrive...

Q: Will we be able to see plays from our own game during the weekly wrap-up (sportscenter)?

A: Yes, if you have an Xbox or PS2 + Hard Drive, you’ll get User Highlights. You’ll find that this year’s SportsCenter pushes the envelope of presentation to a place no football game has gone before. In addition to seeing actual plays from your games, you’ll also see Highlights from around the league, interspersed between news of trades, injuries, and other happenings from around the NFL. If you like watching SportsCenter, you’ll probably get a lot of enjoyment out of our virtual SC.

The Gamepro review said that the Xbox version looks pretty good(for the Xbox) and the PS2 version looks GREAT(for the PS2).

They said something along the lines of this being the first legitimate contender for Madden\'s crown in YEARS and with the $19.99 price tag you would be a fool to not get it.

wow. I just watched videos on IGN.com for espn and am hugely becoming skeptical of it. The presentation is getting the game a bunch of hype, so i checked out maddens videos and espn.

Madden had 2 retards playing it that kept throwing bombs...and they were working. But i think if a normal person is playing D, then it wont be as likely to work. Some of the animations were iffy/unrealistic, and the same as 2004. Hoping its not the same as NCAA, cuz so far im not liking it as much as i would hope.

ESPN had a bunch of unrealistic broken tackles. Dillon (i think) broke about 5 tackles in a one second period, stayley broke about 5 tackles for a 50 yard gain, jamal lewis not only broke about 4 tackles but then out ran everyone else including the safteys. Barlow had a couple runs where he broke a bunch of tackles. They didnt show much of the passing game though so i cant be devils advocate on that. I will definitly give the props on the deep pass coverage which turned into interceptions. A couple others worked but they do in real life too. And of course the graphics, but if madden would mix the torso/helmet into it, then it would be the best out there.

Bottom line..Ill pass on the 20 dollar game and go with madden.

Well I guess I will be buying the xbox version because I am not going to shell out cash for the ps2 hdd.

Kind of sucks though cause i wanted the ps2 version hoping they would start an espn league.

Wait wait, they throw bombs in Madden all the time and they are successful with them and your reasoning is bad D, but a guy breaks a few tackles in ESPN and the game is total crap?  Why doesn\'t ESPN get the fair shake on this one with the benefit of the doubt like you gave Madden?  Why can\'t the guys playing ESPN get the write-off of bad D?  What\'s with the double standard?  If I were you, I\'d wait awhile longer until some credible sites got a hold of final builds and reviewed it -- which is basically anyone except gamepro.

In all honesty though, it really doesn\'t matter.  Just about every year since the NFL series has been in production from Visual Concepts, sites and magazines have declared it THE football game to play.  It has won direct showdowns over and over again with IGN and Gamespot to name a few and people still refuse to buy it and still would rather stick with Madden.  This isn\'t directed at you or anything Viper, but I\'m totaly amazed at such blinding loyalty that Madden fans consistantly show.  It\'s got to be pretty damn strong for people to say "20 bucks for a possibly superior football game then Madden which is close to triple that value?  I\'ll stick with Madden."

It absolutely amazes me.

Okay, after getting a taste of NCAA 2005, I\'m definitely getting Madden 2005 because the same guys made the game, and they know what they\'re doing.

Because you can control the defense. they werent even audibling. You cant control broken tackles and its frusterating as hell. But i know it sounded lopsided, which i kind of am mainly because iv never been displeased with madden. Iv been displeased with how people play online but not that actual game. And its more than a few tackles so dont downplay that. It was rediculous after it happened almost every clip of a guy running.

And again, the main reason im sticking with madden is because of the psx2c madden league. Its probably one (if not the best) organized league. If i werent in it i would get ESPN on xbox. But thats not saying its better than madden.

To me, the reasoning on this one is pretty full-proof.  You\'re getting a game that\'s WELL worth 50 dollars and could very well be better then Madden -- for a mere 20 bucks.  Owning both shouldn\'t even be a question in people\'s minds.  You\'re getting the two best football games in the world, both totaly solid products in every respect, for a mere 70 dollars total.  I mean, I can\'t stand IGN, but the closing comments in that review link I posted from both reviewers really sums up well how I feel about this.

I just think people would be fools to pass this up solely because they like one game better then the other.  I mean, how often does something like this in videogame release history actually happen?

I am so pissed you can only get all this on the xbox version.  I know it\'s only 20bucks but I am not buying it on two consoles.

I\'ll buy the ps2 version only if we are lucky enough to get a league here like the madden folks.

want to get your guys\' opinion.

Im probably going to get ESPN. Theres a chance i wont because im hesitating owning 2 football games. I dont want to suck in the league and get confused by the controls, and i also dont want to buy a game and not use it.

Anyway, would it be better to get it on xbox and have the video highlights but have old rosters (theyre going to be pretty old since they have it coming out so early). Or have the updateable roster for PS2 and not have the video highlights.

Get the PS2 version!  Many owners here have the PS2, i.e. the Madden league and hopefully they convert so that we can make a ESPN league.  Very low maintance for the league since everythig is already set up for us through ESPN.

Weve been talking about it on the forums and it looks like most are sticking with madden. Especially the big guys like the admins. But there will be a few (not sure how many but i know of 3 er 4..probably more since not that many are active in the forums)
