I know. I was just bringing it up in response to his statement.

This has been discussed on these forums ad nauseum.

I have said it a MILLION times and the only problem you have with BET/FUBU/etc is the name. If it was Urban Entertainment and showed the exact same content you would say nothing. A clothing label like Karl Kani is the same as FUBU. It is a black designer who makes clothes for the hip-hop generation. Still, he doesnt MENTION the fact that he is black and that the people who buy his clothes are  black so everything is peachy.

BTW, Do a search on this topic we have talked about this WAY too many times.

I agree with BS on that issue.  There is absolutely no reason for blacks not to have clothing and entertainment that reflects their culture.

Yeah but FUBU has a blatant message that means blacks only. South Pole, Sean Jean, are all black clothing but its not saying so in the name.

What Im trying to say is FUBU is an example that whites arent the only ones pushing for segregation.

Thats petty. Just because FuBu means for us by us doesnt mean that they are strongly trying to push for segregation. Not to mention that im pretty sure that FUBU was bought out by a WHITE GUY. Perhaps im wrong but im pretty damn sure that thats the case.

Its fairly sad though that all these black owned companies are falling into the hands of white people. Im not trying to say that white people are evil and thats why they shouldnt own the companies. Im saying that when this happens, it takes power out of the black community because we have less control over what used to be a representation of our culture.

I remember when it was bought. They started showing more of these infomercials and shit. It changes a lot. I wont go into detail but its a pity when black owners are too money struck to have enough pride in what they began.

And Im glad giga finaly was able to agree with somebody on one thing. :p. Wiser man than i thought.

But we are pulled over and illegal searched all the time for no good reason . Overlooked at jobs and denied benefits because of who we are.

I\'ve been pulled over and redirected to the side of the road several times for cops to do searches.  Did I blame the white man and cause a ruckus?

No.

I\'ve been turned down for jobs many times.  Did I blame the white man?

No.

Now I\'m graduating college later this year and hope to have a decent job supporting myself.  I never used my skin color or race as a crutch.  I may not be dark as you but we\'re living in a new age where you can take advantage of many oppurtunities.  Get a job, save up for school, and don\'t make babies til you can afford to :p

You know another problem with racism and race in general.  My mother who isn\'t a racist, was at the casino last night in Detroit and had a black female run into her while she was playing the slots and then the she told me the black female told her she was sorry.  My mom then told me that she said if it were a white women, she would have told the white women off.  It is a double standard implied.  My mom is afraid to treat blacks the same as whites in such cases for fear of being called a racist.  After further observations, I have noticed many white people have acted differently around blacks, being as kind as possible.

The way I see it, just treat everyone the same.  That\'s what I do.  I argue with blacks all the time when playing basketball and treat them as I would with white people.  The point I am trying to make is, if we just pretended like everyone is the same color, this world would be so much better off.

The Europeans in American didn\'t only use African Americans as slaves. They used Native Americans as slaves also.

So the Europeans would of had "slaves" just not African Slaves.

Anyways...

To tell you the truth I think that we steryotype ourselves(Specially minorities)

I remember back in school one time a kid was dared to go down to some crack house by my school and throw a sprite bottle at it. He did and this white guy came out. A black girl not so far away from me said "Damn, he lucky he was white, cuz if he was black he would of shot his ass" Rappers also contribute to the bad associations that are sometimes connected to the black community and what is sad is that the black community belives and sucks in everything they say and start acting like they say black people should act.

Hispanics are the same way. We joke around sometimes by saying "Damn, I\'m Mexican I\'ll steal that shit before buying it" or BS like that and it\'s sad.

White people like to bitch about being discriminated against. And I can see where they are coming from. It can go as far as the "It\'s not fair he got the job b/c he knows Spanish" or "It\'s not fair he got a scholarship for being Hispanic" or "It\'s not fair he got the job b/c of being black"
But those kinds of things you have to know about in order to see if it\'s fair or not. They don\'t know the history of that minority or where they came from or anything. It\'s kind of sad if you think about it, when we get jobs b/c of our race it\'s kind of saying "Hey, they can\'t make it on their own"...but you know what the majority of the time is true.

Just nvrmind I typed that.

Native Americans were extremely adept at escaping and making their way to freedom(home field advantage and all). There were very few Native American slaves.

Wrong Answer. If you look at "all the things in history" the RICH people had it easy. Seeing as how white does not equal rich your statement is way off base.

A middle class white person has more in common with a middle class minority than they do with a lower/upper class person of the same race. Here in america we are just so caught up in race that we fail to see that.

I was referring to how Giga was talking about how the white people suffered and what not and how they weren\'t the only ones.

It\'s late...I\'ll expand on this tomorrow...i mean later today.

Actually Mystiq is right - I must have woken up in an alternate universe ;)

Native Americans were used in bulk quantities by the Spanish in the Caribbean and Central and South America as slave labor.  Christopher Columbus even brought some back to show to the Queen of Spain.  As far as North America goes, I agree with BS that they would not have been able to have been used in that way.

Well if it wasn\'t happening I would have nothing to use. Case in point. I went to blockbuster one night rented some movies. Woke up next morning could not find my ID.

Got up my 12 & 15 year old nephews came with me to go see if I left it at blockers. The store was just getting to open up. They told me I had to wait I ask the women could she check and see if I had left my id. She said she did not see it. So I had me and nephews where looking around the surrouding area to see if I dropped it.

Found it right in the middle of the parking lot. So I got in my car and was on my way back home. No soon as I get down the street I am pulled over by the cops. No reason at all. They are yelling to me put my hands out the window. I am sitting in my car shocked and amazed. The cop comes to car with her weapon drawn. Tells us to get out of the car. I am like I have kids in this car.

I tell her I have all my information right here. She makes my little nephews get on the grown. Two more squads cars pull up.  I am so pissed right now. Then she takes me into the police car and tells me that a white women was in the parking lot waiting to drop off a deposit at the bank and got scared when she saw us.

The whole point is shit like that happens all time and people expect us to just brush everything off our shoulders.
I am not using my race for a clutch but when shit happens to me because of the color of my skin what the **** am I supose to think?
