20GB fill up fast?
are you just making this shit up?

i saw an image of some soccer management simulator that requried the HD.
be that a fake image or not (doesnt matter), there is already a title that requires it (FF11), which means your rationalization is moot.

ever hear of HDCP?  HDMI has nothing to do with "true HD" lol

is a HDMI port required to play games?  no
anything else?

Realizing the part you payed for so, so much cannot even be utilized to the fullest without it would sting a bit now wouldn\'t it? Blu-Ray is nothing without HDMI.

I think Sony just handed Microsoft and Nintendo some sizeable chunks of the video game market.  Casuals make up Sony\'s sales...and Sony just sent a big "Fuck you" to all of them.  No doubt the hardcore Sonyphiles are going to eat this up, and I also have no reservations saying the system will be wanted by many...it\'s just that I seriously question how many will spend $500 on a crippled blu-ray player and a video game system that shows no difference in graphic fidelity to the cheaper 360.  I suppose we\'ll see but in the mean time I have to bring up several points...more mud slinging than anything, but I just have to.

First off, I think every single one of you criticized Microsoft\'s 2 sku approach.  In fact, I believe many of you said Microsoft fucked up and would only confuse consumers.  Now Sony has 2 sku\'s, but worse is that the hardware is so different.  At least Microsoft made it so you could upgrade to the Premium version.  Sony\'s decision won\'t affect gameplay, but where is the upgrade path?  If you get the "tard PS3" you\'re stuck with it and the lack of features.

Kutaragi said it would not be over $399, that they would not have more than one sku, that it was twice as powerful as the 360.  It\'s a fair amount more than $400, there are two sku\'s, and the games shown thus far look just like 360 games.

It\'s all too funny.  I saw it coming.  I love it.

I think you make some good points.

Those bundles came with games?

What?

what\'s that?

Your logic makes no sense? Silly man, we knew that already.

Blu-Ray is nothing without HDMI.

HDCP is nothing without HDMI
if the studio does not set the flag, the blu-ray film plays fine over DVI/component
get it right, please

you completely missed the point, like always
people dropped 1400$ (with games/accessories they didn\'t even want) without blinking an eye.
thousands of people bought that quad-SLI 10,000$ Dell PC last month
million of people buy 30,000$ cars every month
need i continue?

the 600$ price tag is NOT the issue
stupidity is

you might need to upgrade your hdd capacity.  If Sony does indeed plan on having a virtual console like MS and Nintendo then limited capacity is undesireable.  I don\'t want to have to get rid of anything.  20 gigs fill up fast from what I hear.

Tell me how many games have released that require the HDD on the 360.  I believe Final Fantasy XI is the ONLY one thus far, and that was to be expected.

No, but what\'s the point of paying that much money for a PS3 when you need HDMI to take advantage of the blu-ray (cause you do need it otherwise it\'s not true HD).

Thats because the HD doesnt come as standard. Developers wouldnt want to make games that will need a HD many wont own to play

On the other hand who knows? It might end up like the XBOX on which the HD wasnt of much use.

Unless Sony included the HD for a good reason.

Wow damage control, what the fuck does that matter.

no 1080p on a fucking console that brags about blu-ray and makes us pay so much for it?

yea, good one

also

HDMI is the \'next generation\' hi def output. You don\'t have to output hi def movies on HDMI, but only HDMI can be HDCP approved, so if you play an HDCP movie on it it will be downscaled to lower than 1080p.

Has anyone else noticed though, that Sony\'s own movies have been announced as not HDCP protected? I wonder if that was in anticipation of the cheapo PS3 not having HDMI?

so then let me ask this question

Why even bother?

Wrong.  I think you are confused with ICT (image constraint token) flag. It\'s up to the studios to put on the ICT flag or not for the  the analog connection like the component video.

While the digital connection, pretty much all movies have the HDCP protection to prevent people copying movies off the disc digitally...

Since the strip down version of ps3 only have analog video output, no HDMI.  You still can watch blu ray movies in high def of 720p or 1080i via component video connection as long as ICT was not set on in the blu ray disc...

Because ICT is optional...

I know you still can watch at 720p and 1080i, but the matter is that damned 1080p. Thanks for clearing some of that stuff up though.

Does this mean that movies with ICT (not that I know what that is. I need enlightenment) wont be viewable on the cheaper PS3? What if studios put this in movies I d want to watch but I only own the cheap PS3?

Good question.

If a studio put the ICT flag in the disc, then the resolution of the movie will be down res to 960 x 540p instead of the full 1920 x 1080p.  meaning, you will be able to see 1/4th or a quarter resolution of the full 1080p via analog connection like component video output...

So, you still can watch the movie. just that it\'s a bit better than 720 x 480p of dvd resolution, but not full resolution of HD though...

Its a good thing that it\'s optional because Sony movie studios won\'t set the flag on for their movies in blu ray.  And I remember reading other studios also won\'t set the flag on either for now too...so most current blu ray movies won\'t have the ICT for now...

Wow,  am I on ignore?

DVD = 5 GB

Blue-ray= 25 GB

The large percentage of people who get PS3 won\'t have HD monitors,  so they wont miss HDMI.  Those of us who have HD will happily pay $100 extra to take advantage of our super expensive HD monitors.  (Not to mention we get a bigger 60 GB Hard Drive)
