Yeah.
I just hope EB has it.
Its kinda old.
Ill get that patch when I pick it up tomorrow.
Looks like I\'m going to be in gaming bliss tomorrow(hopefully).
So what is your favorite QFG game?
I think mine is part 4.
It would be part 3, but I hate the random battles.
Very annoying.

I like QFGII the best. The graphics are dated as hell, but the storyline and gameplay are amazing. It\'s got the best combat system of the entire series as well. And to a certain digree, I miss the text parser. Maybe it\'s just me, but get more of a feeling of accomplishment when I figure something out and type it in by hand rather than just point & click pixel hunting. QFGIII comes in a close second though. I love the music, innovative setting, atmosphere, and the underlying morals that are weaved into the game. Expecially the anit-war messages and the idea that "Good" and "Lawfulness" aren\'t one in the same. You actually get more rewards from breaking the law in order to help people than you would by following the laws.

If you didn\'t like the random battles in QFG3, then you might be put off by QFG5\'s overhead map and random battles. It doen\'t bother me that much since there aren\'t ungodly long load times and combat is totally optional in most cases. That\'s one of the things I\'ve always hated about RPG\'s like Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star.. no matter the class of your character.. you had to kill monsters to advance levels. Why? If you specialize in picking locks or healing wounds.. wouldn\'t it be more logical to have your level increase by how often you practice those specific skills rather than increase those skills by preforming a totally unrelated act?

BTW: How did you get into QFG in the first place? Did ya just happen to see the box on the shelf and decide to give it a whirl, or did ya play it at a friends house first? For me, it worked out that my sister bought Hero\'s Quest 1 (QFG1) and I ended up playing it more than she would. I was hooked, and after that I bought each new game in the series the same month they came out.

The message is pretty deep, especially if you are a paladin.
The one thing I didnt like about part 4 is if you are a paladin you cant break the glass above the Domovoi in the Monastory.
The battles wont discourage me.
I just like 1 and 4s battles better.
I cant even remember how I got into it.
Let me think...
The first one I got was part 3.
I remember now.
I was in 7th grade,
and a friend let me borrow his because we would swap games back and forth a lot, and I loved it.
I bought 4 when it came out, and then when the anthology came out I got that.
I loved the soundtrack, I need to find that, cause Im into classical music(favorite is Tchkaviosky) and that is a very classic soundtrack.
I got the anthology anout a year and a half ago.
I then bought part 5, but I had a 166 mhz with 16 megs of ram and it ran shamefully, so I had to take it back, and now that I have a new computer, Im going to pick 5 back up.
It should rock.

I\'m not sure. Through Air mail I wouldn\'t expect it to be any more than one buisness week, but it all depends on how backlogged they are trying to get other software out.

Look, I\'m probably not going to be around for a few days. Between plates, insurance, rent, utilities and all that good stuff, I didn\'t have enough money to pay my ISP bill this month and until I find a new service, I\'m kinda screwed. I\'m going to go surfing around for some FreeISP\'s in my area and if push comes to shove I\'ll just hook up to AOL just for the 15,000 or so free hours I\'ve accumulated on all the disks they\'ve sent me. If you get the game and need some help before I\'m back online, just ask the guys over at Sierra\'s QFGV website or at the FACSResurection. I\'m sure they\'d be more than happy to help you out.

Nope, I already looked into them and they haven\'t gotten the service out to my area yet. There\'s a few more I wanna check up on though. Hopefully one will have an 800 number I can dial into since I had to get long distance taken off my phone.

I might also mooch some internet time off my buddies. I used to set all their computes up with my acount so they could get on the net and surf around while saving money to get their own service. It\'d just be a matter of calling in a few favors.

I guess it\'s all for the best anyhow. I\'ve been wanting to switch services anyhow. If I can get some free net time until I can afford a DreamCast, then I\'ll just use the money I would have paid my ISP to buy a DC and hook up with the Seganet/Rebate plan and use the money I get back to buy PSO and a few games.

I just hope Sega\'s got an access number in my area.

Yeah, I\'ve heard PSO kicks ass. It was the reason why I was thinking of buying a DC in the first place, then when I looked up the information on it and saw all the other killer titles out there for it I knew I had to have one. Now I just gotta wait until I get some cash, which hopefully won\'t be too long.

If you get PSO, you wanna join a QFG clan? I\'ve been thinking about trying to talk some of my old buddies who left the Sierra message boards with me into buying a DC and this game.

I dunno, Grandia II just hasn\'t grasped my attention for some reason. There\'s just something intangible about the series that puts me off. Skies of Arcadia looks good though. More or less I\'m looking for the Adventureish titles on the DC. Shenmue, HeadHunter, Resident Evil: CV, and games like that. They make up my PS2 most wanted list too.. MGS2 (Well it\'s sort of Adventure like), Shadow of Memories, The Lost, Run Like Hell, RE4 and whatever this new LucasArts adventure comming out is.

I\'m kinda glad that even though the Adventure genre is next to dead right now, that the hybrids are still very popular, expecially the Action/Adventure games like RE, Silent Hill, and Fear Effect. It makes you wonder though, why someone else hasn\'t tried a RPG/Adventure hybrid lately. Yeah, their shorter than normal RPG\'s but they\'re also much much more interactive and involving. They\'d also be good "RPG Lites" for those who don\'t have over 80 to 100 hours to spend on a game and just can\'t get into the genre. Plus since the Adventure element lends itself to a single user playable character, Realtime battles would be a breeze and quite fun if programed correctly.

IMO, it sure beats the hell out of character maintinence, stats records, obscure strategy, and the countless hours of "mindless monster bashing" needed to raise levels. That last point is one of the reasons I like QFG so much.. you improve in specific skills depending on how much you practice that skill, rather than just recieve broad routine improvements of all skills based on how many monsters you slay.

Yeah.
Ive been waiting for an adventure game like Shadows of Memories.
I hope the new lucasarts game is something like Monkey Island, that would be pretty sweet.
Ive heard nothing but good things so far about the Grandia series.
I havent played any of them yet though.
I think the adventure game is one of the funnest out there.
I mean, Leisure Suit Larry?
Thats about as fun as you can get.
I think a new adventure RPG would be cool.
I think the new Baldurs Gate is going to be kinda like that, but more RPG intensive. Did you ever play Crusaders of the Dark Savant?
Its defiantly an interesting game.

Naw, I haven\'t even heard of the game. If it\'s a new PC game, then I won\'t be able to play it until I can afford to upgrade. *Kicks his Pentium 200MMX* Now if it\'s Abandonware, I\'ll download a copy tonight just to check it out.

Just for the record, you do know that I trade in abandonware. Technically, I\'m a pirate (Though I prefer the term Brigand).. but ABware differs from Warez and other forms of piracy in one very important way. Only games that are no longer sold/supported by their copyright holding companies are considered abandonware. All other software that is still being sold is considered Oldwarez or Warez.. which I am against. I figure that if a company still want to sell their software, then I\'ll buy it and support the industry who\'s supporting me. If they don\'t, then I am neither hurting the industry nor the company who created the software by collecting their "Old Garbage".

For example, I would gladly E-mail you a copy of CodeName: Iceman.. a Sierra adventure series that never made it past the first game and is no longer sold. However, I won\'t give you King\'s Quest 3.. which is still being sold in collectors packs despite being ancient.

In this form, trading old games and software is really no different than downloading and emulating ROMS for a Sega Mastersystem or NEO-GEO. The only thing that trips most people up is that old PC games can still be played on new computers, so there isn\'t that barrier of a "Dead Console" which safely defines what generally is ABware and what isn\'t.

Oh, and one last thing, Hero\'s Quest 1 IS abandonware since Sierra cannot legally sell or support it due to copyright infringments. The game is still being sold under the title Quest for Glory 1. Personally, I think it would be great for everyone reading this to download HQ1 and play it, possibly getting hooked on this increadible series and buying the full QFG collectors pack as a result.

Well,
that is defiantly iteresting.
I didnt know such a piracy existed, though I guess its not piracy, its like going through someones trash, which is legal if I remember correctly.
It probably is vaporware.
I think the first version is about 10 to 12 years old.
Its really good because you can choose i think 12 different races and there are 25 different proffesions you can pick for each of your 6 characters.
I suggest, if you do get it, that you get a paladin, ninja, bishop, monk, psionic, and a valkyrie(maybe).
I cant remember which you should get last.
Its a VERY DEEP game.
There are 5 different catagories of skills, each with about 20 skills each.
Each time you level up you get to choose points to distribute(kinda like the begining of each QFG game), and if you use magic, a new spell.
There are 5 different areas of magic and each time you level up you get to pick a new spell from the list.
Also, at anytime during the game, you can choose a new proffesion for your character(this is really fun towards the end of the game, cause your character reverts all the way back to level one, and you can rebuild him up very fast.)
You then arrange your party into 2 columns of three each.
The people in the front column can attack with normal weapons, the people in the middle can attack with medium weapons and the people in the back can only attack with projectile or long weapons.
Conversly the people in the front will often take the most damage.
Its defiantly a challenging game, and really long and deep considering its only about...oh 12 years old, and only takes to disk to hold the entire game.
If it is AbandonWare I highly suggest you get it, especially since you seem to like this kind of game from your post in "baldurs Gate:dark Alliance revisted".
This game is like a mix between QFG,Diablo and Final fantasy tactics.

Cool. Sounds kinda like a cross between QFG, OgerBattle64, and Final Fantasy. I\'ll check it out on Moby games tonight to see if it\'s still being sold or not. If it is ABware, then Underdogs will probably have it.

BTW: ABware IS considered piracy and IS very illegal, same as downloading Roms. Even though a company isn\'t selling said software anymore, they still own intellectual copyright on it.. and that dosen\'t expire for 80 years. Unless the software is released as Freeware (As Sierra\'s Betrayal at Krondor was) or the copyright holding company has gone out of buisness without anyone else buying up their assets.. then you can be prosocuted for it.

I just see it as a stupid law. Noone in their right mind is going to pay 10 - 20 bucks for a game that\'s over 10 years old. It just isn\'t going to happen. Maybe a few people would, but nowhere near enough to cover the manufacturing and distribution costs. 9.9 out of 10 times, a company will just sit on the copyrighted software and not do anything but let it fade into obscurity. I don\'t think that\'s right to let such treasures just fade away. That\'s like destroying movies after they reach 10 to 15 years old, weither their classic masterpieces or not.

If anything, I\'m in it just as much for preservation as I am for enjoyment and nostalgia. As I said earlier, if someone searches to no avail for a game or program that they fondly remember from their childhood, and I can provide it where "Corperate Entities" can/WILL not, then I feel I\'ve done a good thing despite breaking the law.
